Yesterday I had a nice visit with my Mom, my 1 yr old grandson, and my daughter Jess in California. My Mom is a very special person in my life. She is 100 yrs old this year.
What’s the most significant thing we can learn from the “elderly”? Perspective, I think.
Age brings perspective like nothing else. The more of the rest of the world you see, the less important you consider yourself. There are fewer things, like health and family, that really matter to you.
“Elderly” are the ultimate survivors. It takes strength to get that far. They are better at accepting the hard situations and disappointments of life. They know that life must go on despite all the problems. This is the reason they stay happy in old age.
Learning from my Mom is an exercise in humility. I believe we need to learn to appreciate the wisdom of our elderly, and learn from their life experience… and “wise up”.
My Mom has never given up on me, and for that I will be grateful for what she did for the rest of my life!
