Thoughts from ILF New York

It was my distinct honor to present a discussion of Guardians Of The Dream recently at the Inauguration of the International Leadership Foundation (ILF) New York Advisory Board in Flushing, NY. The ILF is an organization close to my heart. As part of its mission, the ILF seeks to encourage and develop aspiring Asian Pacific American students by utilizing a network of business and government leaders who are best positioned to provide opportunities of professional training, encouragement and inspiration in the field of public service and for civic awareness.

I believe that empowering and educating the next generation of Asian Pacific Americans is a crucial part of strengthening America’s future. In sharing my optimistic message that night with this special audience of ILF supporters, advisors, and past interns, dialogue was generated about how best to approach growing cynicism among Americans today and about the opportunities which exist for entrepreneurs in the years ahead. New York City Councilman Peter Koo, Congresswoman Grace Meng, NY State Assemblyman Ron Kim, and former New York City Comptroller John Liu were in attendance among many other notable Asian Pacific American leaders from the New York region.

It was my pleasure to share my own experiences, especially those as a parent watching my children learn basic entrepreneurial principles and spirit through a simple lemonade stand on our driveway many years ago. By selling lemonade to our neighbors, my children were able to get a first peek at the world of business and most importantly, to navigate the challenges that so many businesses face every day. Their innate motivation to find the best solutions was a seed to be nurtured. Similarly, the ILF program provides students a unique opportunity to learn those same principles, ignites their drive to hit the ground running with real professional experience and apply those skills to their future careers. I am grateful to the ILF for this opportunity to share Guardians Of The Dream and for being so receptive to my message of hope for the young generation and the American Dream.
